I'm new and I am wanting to join the 501st... but i'm not old enough yet. I was wondering if I could get some help trying to get a costume started so when I can join I will already have one. I have somewhat of an idea of what I want to make... but I think that it is not a legal costume (yet ). Any help would be very appreciated.

What did you have in mind? I may be able to provide you with some info...

When would you be looking to join?

I am looking at a Clone Assassin costume... I have been researching it online and it is only slightly different then Commander Neyo's armor.

in two years :)

I found some pics of a Cammander Neyo helmet: ( by the way the pics are towards the bottom)

and this is what the Clone Assassin looks like:

The Neyo helmet looks like it would be a good start. I did a search on clone assassin and found 2-3 different variations of what the armor would look like. This goes to the consistency issue mentioned in my PM to you.

There would need to be some mods made to the armor based on the pics that I saw, plus the creation of the unique "collar" pieces. Nothing that couldn't be done with some work though.

thanks for researching all this for me, it really helps. :)

as of right now, i can only find a few places where the Clone Assassins are actually mentioned. 1. Star Wars Episode 3 the video game, 2. 'True Colors' by Karen Traviss (p. 187), 3. the complete guide to the game mentioned before (I own both the game and the guide), and 4. Wookiepedia: the Star Wars wiki.

Wookiepedia has the most info i could find on the Assassin class, the game and the guide both have info on the Assassin class, and the book only mentions them. Do you think that I have enough info to try and make this a legal costume? another plus is that in my research, i found out that the Assassin's armor is only slightly different then Commander Neyo's (which is why i put on photos of his helmet) I searched the 501st for any Commander Neyo's and there is a few... maybe we could use one as a model?

well... i know you told me what i had to do to get the costume into the 501st. while i was looking through the clone website you gave me i found this:

...If a costume does not appear on the 501st CRL located here:

http://www.501st.com/crl/

Then three steps will need to be followed prior to submitting the potential costume for consideration by the Legion Council.

1. Work with the designated Detachment Leader to provide three different visual references from licensed media (print or motion) or licensed toys (figures/statues/game pieces) that you based your costume on. All three licensed sources should depict the costume in the same way with the same elements present.

2. Work with the designated Detachment Leader to provide a Costume Reference Library listing of required costume parts in the same format that the detachment has already worked on their first submission. The Detachment Leader knows the preferred format since there have already been CRL instructions given to all Detachment Leaders.

3. Provide detailed pictures of your completed costume (including shots of the front, back, side, and close ups on accessories such as belts/boots/gloves/weapon, etc.) as well as the materials that it is made of so that it can be compared for accuracy and quality against the original images.

All three of these elements are necessary in order for the Legion Council to consider it for inclusion as an eligible membership costume.

and i never did find anything about a clone assassin, but i did find one for commander neyo

Hi JH, gotcha and I want to say your enthusiasm is Awesome! Love to see people this stoked about a character. However, and I hate to say this, wookiepedia is NOT a good referance source for anything and the main reason why is that Wookiepedia can be edited by anyone! It is not always accurate. Second, the clone assassin in question here is a "concept piece" of art intended for a character in a video game that did not materialise fully. Finally bro, you could not get this character approved by the 501st due to lack of real referance material! HOWEVER, this does not mean you could not build this suit bro! Your age also comes into play my friend. There is no limit to what you can do on your own of course and you are free to visit armor days, attend and hang out at functions, but you cannot join offically until it's time and you are of age.

I hope you are not put off by this JH! Hang in there and refine your search and save your money for a good quality costume base. When it is time you will be ready!;)
sincerely, jon

Jon is correct. Wookiepedia would not be considered a viable source for reference photos. Your best bet is to find Lucasfilm LICENSED products. Some examples would be figures, Gentle Giant busts, various SW Visual Dictionaries, and obviously "on-screen" references.

There have been instances where LucasArts video games have been used for reference. An example of this would be The Force Unleashed. LucasArts was kind enough to provide the Legion with 3D, 360 degree, reference shots of many of the characters in the game, e.g., the Secret Apprentice, Stormtrooper Commander, Juno Eclipse, etc. To date, we have not received any of the same material with regard to the SW: Ep3 video game.

As Jon said, as of NOW, this costume would be difficult to get added to the library. That isn't to say that it couldn't be added in the future if additional references become available. :D Again, as Jon stated, you can certainly go ahead with the build of this character!! We encourage people to do build the costumes THEY want to build!

My advice would be this: Start with something a bit "easier". Perhaps a Tie Fighter pilot, Imperial crewman, Tusken, etc. Then, once you're 18 and accepted into the Legion, start working toward the clone assassain using the skills you developed while building your first costume. Make sense?

Again, please let me know if you need any thing!!

hey i think i may have my sights on the next hard costume i want to try and build. i see that many of the characters made it over from the force unleashed... what about the alternate ending secret apprentice? lucasarts even have a second tfu coming out around christmas about if the dark side had won in tfu. now that would make an amazing costume!! :)

I'm going to start saving and planning for the costume... that is really what i would like to do... but i will probabley do something a little easier first :)
